Why Use Our Product?

Lime slaking has long been recognized as one of the necessary headaches associated with mineral processing and acid mine drainage treatment. Sudbury Lime's product offers a cleaner, more cost-effective alternative to the other options on the market:

Traditional Slaking
Typical lime slaking circuits are extremely hot and dusty and often receive poor maintenance and operator attention as a result of this. Usually they are stuck in some out-of-the-way place in your process where everyone just hopes it continues to run and prays it doesn’t break down. As long as it continues to produce a reasonably fair product, it’s not likely to get much attention. Quality control is not much of a reality. Ultimately, this can result in expensive repair costs and breakdowns, which can end up costing your company serious dollars in lost production. Not to mention the inevitable problems that poor lime quality will have on your process, such as plugged lines, sanded out tanks, and excessive pump wear; just to name a few.

The Usual Alternative
Historically, the most reasonable alternative to slaking your own lime was to purchase extremely expensive hydrated lime in bulk powder and mix it at your site. While providing an adequate slurry product, handling of this extremely harsh, dusty power creates poor industrial hygiene conditions and adds extra costs to your operation.

The Sudbury Lime Alternative
At Sudbury Lime, we have designed and fine-tuned our process to address these problems and to provide an alternative source for lime slurry that is both reliable and cost-effective. We are also committed to providing our customers with the highest quality lime slurry available anywhere. It has been our primary focus since we began production in August of 2004 and we believe that we have gone a long way towards achieving our goal.

If you are not convinced, just take a look at our production record for 2005.

  • Tonnes of Quicklime Processed = 26,017 tonnes
  • Volume of Slurry Produced = 47 Million Litres
  • Average Percent Solids of Slurry = 28.91 % (by weight)
  • Average Screen Fraction Passing – 200 Mesh = 97.5 %
  • Average Screen Fraction Passing – 325 Mesh = 95.4 %
  • Average Slaker Runtime per day = 6.9 hours

Even with these impressive numbers, we are just barely starting to flex our muscles. Looking forward to 2006, we expect our production level to increase to approximately 40,000 tonnes. Even at that rate, our plant will still have plenty of capacity left for additional demand from new customers.
